The new intelligence law: choosing between privacy and safety

This event will be in Dutch.

On March 21st there will be a referendum about the controversial new intelligence and safety security law. During this referendum, initiated by a group of concerned students at Science Park, the Dutch people will have to make a choice between privacy and safety. When the law will be made official, it will be possible for our governemnt to retrieve large quantities of (personal) information form a certain environment, in case threats (of terror) have been identified there. This means that, in principle, the government would be allowed to hack your TV, computer or phone without notifying you. On the other hand, such a law can be essential in the fight against rising terror, and the old laws concerning this topic might be outdated.

But how will this law work exactly? How much control and power will the government truly have? And will this law even truly help? This and much more will be discussed in the upcoming edition of BetaBreak on March 21st. During this edition, the ins and outs of the law will be discussed.
