On 11 July 2017 the Dutch Senate has agreed to a Law on Intelligence and Security (Wet op de inlichtingen- en veiligheidsdiensten). This means that, starting 1 January 2018, authorities have permission to intercept our online communication at a very large scale, even if the people involved form no threat to national security. This new law is of extra importance to students in the Information Science department, because online privacy is one of the important social issues we deal with in our studies and daily life. A group of students has started a petition to request a referendum, some of which are members of via. They want your attention and we want you to be informed on this drastic change of law.
