Vote for the name of the new buidling at Science Park
Last modified at: 17-05-2019
At the beginning of this year, we asked all staff at the Faculty of Science to think of a name for the new building. Around 35 names were nominated, after which a vote among IvI and ILLC colleagues and an administrative and legal (trademark) check ultimately left over two names: LAB42 and SP xxx (= final house number announced in September 2019).
The name Science Park (SP) xxx is fitting because it includes the address, just like the current Faculty of Science building: Science Park 904. This shows a clear relationship between the two faculty buildings. Just like the current building, the façade of the new building will feature the number only.
LAB42 is also fitting. LAB makes reference to the vision of the architect: ‘With its mix of workplaces, storage rooms, a library, laboratories, clubs and offices, this is much more than just a “science block”, as it seems like anything is possible here.’ LAB also literally reflects the building’s function as a breeding ground and laboratory in the field of informatics. Informatics scientists are very familiar with the number 42: that is, the answer to life, the universe and everything (from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy).
The name will be revealed on 16 May during the presentation of the design by Benthem Crouwel Architects in the Night Studio near the Startup Village at Amsterdam Science Park.
You can still vote untill the 15th of May! Vote here!
