Robert Cecil Martin, colloquially known as "Uncle Bob", is best known for promoting several software design principles, and for being one of the authors of the Agile Manifesto. He was also the editor-in-chief of C++ Report magazine and served as the first chairman of the Agile Alliance. Martin has authored numerous books and magazine articles, many of which describe the design principles he promotes. Interested in learning more about the new building? Join us for an informational meeting, to be held from 12:00 to 13:00 on 4 February 2019 in the foyer of building Science Park 904. So far, the schedule of requirements has been finalised. Furthermore, the architecture firm Benthem and Crouwel Architects has been selected to realise the new construction. Finally, information on the construction process and design of this remarkable building has been exchanged with users during various work sessions.

Girlsday is an intiative of VHTO, the national bureau of expertise about girs/women in beta/tech, to introduce girls to beta, tech and ICT at a young age. This nationwide event takes place on Thursday April 11th, from 11:00 until 17:00. During Girlsday, lots of beta and tech companies open their doors for girls of the ages 10 to 15. The girls can participate in interesting activities and get introduced to the workings off the companies on a daily basis. And of course they will get to know the female employees of the companies!

The Genootschap ter Bevordering van Natuur-, Genees- en Heelkunde (Institute for the promotion of physics and medicine) grants travel scholarship to young researchers twice a year. PhD students from beta sciences, medicine and dental science from both the UvA and VU can apply for the grant. The maximum amount of money that can be requested has been increased from € 500,- to € 1000,- . Each round, 5 grants will be gifted. The deadline for submitting your grant application is the 5th of january 2019. More information is available here and here.
